High School Papal Essay Contest Winners Move Hearts, April 9, 2008

Jacob Weatherly of Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, in Montgomery, Alabama, a contestant in the Southeast Region, penned one of the most moving welcomes:

"We need something in which to place our hope, something that terrorists cannot destroy, that will not be taken away in a struggling economy, that will not melt as the earth’s temperature rises, that cannot be blown away by a hurricane or swept up in a tornado. We need a spiritual reawakening so that we place our hope in God. We need hope in the Divine to renew a respect for life and to produce things that will endure, to see beyond the here and now and realize the impact we have upon the eternal."
