Contrary to a popular misconception, the national Retirement Fund for Religious assists sisters, brothers, and priests in religious orders but not retired diocesan priests. While 15 priests in this Diocese have chosen to serve past age 70 (the diocesan retirement age for priests), 91 diocesan priests are in retirement. Given the growing longevity of people and rising cost of health care, the long-term ability to care for our retired priests is a priority. In partnership with the parishes, the Diocese would like to ensure that sufficient care will be available for generations of priests to come.
